LIAM SKARDON, AUDIT
I graduated from university with a BSc in Economics, intending to follow my friends to London. An opportunity arose and before long I had moved to British Columbia, Canada where I spent two amazing years.
On my return I was looking to focus on starting a career in finance by applying the skills I had learnt from my degree.
As a huge name in the accounting industry, Grant Thornton are able to offer a high level of training, great industry exposure and plenty of advancement opportunities whilst still placing an importance on good business relationships, which can sometimes be lost in big 4 organisations. I also connected very well with my interviewers which was an important factor in my decision.
My role within the team as an associate is to assist seniors and managers in undertaking audit engagements for a huge variety of entities. I am also studying for the ACCA qualification which compliments my day to day client based work. I have been given a lot of responsibility at an early stage which means I am learning and developing my understanding, perhaps quicker than I expected.
Grant Thornton have provided me with a friendly and comfortable working environment and there is a great team spirit here in the Guernsey office. The Company has introduced numerous forward thinking ideas such as flexible hours to help me maintain a healthy work-life balance and there are lots of social activities and fun events to get involved with.
