JORDAN WIERTEK, AUDIT
What is your background?
I am originally from South Africa and I have a master’s degree (MSc) in Professional Accountancy. I am currently progressing with my last remaining ACCA exams in order to fully qualify as a chartered accountant.
Why did you choose to work for Grant Thornton?
A few years ago, whilst I was reading my bachelor’s degree, I had the opportunity to do an internship with the firm’s tax team in the Guernsey office. That experience bowled me over and left a lasting impression of the great office culture which the firm has.
What is your role and what do you like about your position?
I am an audit associate in the Jersey office. My experience thus far has been fantastic as it has enabled me to get an immense understanding of how businesses operate and function. Our portfolio of clients is extremely broad and it is interesting to see how they all differ from one another depending on the industries which they operate within. A career in audit is mentally stimulating and really requires one to put on their thinking-caps when it comes to solving problems.
Why do you like working at Grant Thornton?
Grant Thornton stands out as an outlier amongst a lot of the other accounting firms for a number of reasons. Despite still being relatively new to the audit team I have already been given a great deal of autonomy from the get-go. Everyone is treated as more than just being a number in an algorithm, the work you do matters and has an impact. There are also no boundaries and we’re on a first-name basis with the directors and are always encouraged to pick their brains.
