Our People Stories - Malgorzata Sej - Grant Thornton Recruitment

What is your background?

I was born and raised in Poland. I gained a first-class honours degree in accounting and finance from Strathclyde University in Scotland. Like most young people I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I grew up but having seen my grandfather work in accounting and finance throughout the years and listening to his valuable insight and his shared experiences in the industry, my passion for accounting has been inspired and grown over the years. I can proudly say that if it was not for my grandfather, it would have taken me much longer to decide my career path.

Why did you choose to work for Grant Thornton?

Grant Thornton is a well-respected global accounting and advisory firm that offers a range of services to clients across different industries. I chose Grant Thornton as I knew the company could provide me with opportunities to gain valuable experience, work with talented colleagues, and build my professional network. Grant Thornton is also well known for providing employees with great career developments and opportunities, and as a young graduate this was something I was looking for.

What is your role and what do you like about your position?

I work as a tax associate in the tax department. This can be a challenging and rewarding experience for several reasons. Firstly, the tax laws are complex and constantly evolving, which means that there is always something new to learn and explore. This is intellectually stimulating and provides opportunities to develop my technical expertise. I also really like working in my team. Since my first day everyone was welcoming and helpful, and made me feel like I can always ask for help. This was key for me as it was my first accounting role after graduating.

Why do you like working at Grant Thornton?

I like working for Grant Thornton because there is a strong team culture, where collaboration, support, and open communication are encouraged. This creates a positive work environment and a sense of community among colleagues, which is motivating and fulfilling for me.
