MARCUS FINER , RECOVERY & REORGANISATION
What is your background?
I am currently a Senior Associate at Grant Thornton in the Recovery and Reorganisation department. I am originally from Harrogate, North Yorkshire and I have a BA in English and French from the University of Manchester, which I obtained in 2020.
Why did you choose to work for Grant Thornton?
I originally joined Grant Thornton as a school leaver in 2016 but quickly decided that university was something I wanted to pursue before embarking on a career in Finance. Grant Thornton was incredibly understanding of my decision and supported me throughout my university education with work placements during the university breaks. Upon completion of my degree in 2020, I was fortunate enough to be offered a role as an Associate in the Recovery & Reorganisation department.
What is your role and what do you like about your position?
My role as a Senior Associate is incredibly varied, and I am fortunate to have worked on a multitude of assignments from cross-jurisdictional solvent cases to complex and contentious insolvent matters. I am enjoying the amount of responsibility and trust that is placed in me to work on these matters and my role is very rewarding in that respect.
Why do you like working at Grant Thornton?
Grant Thornton, whilst being a well-known accountancy practice, is a truly unique firm to work for. One of the main reasons I joined Grant Thornton or (re-joined, rather), was due to the people that I had the opportunity to work with. The amount of exposure that I received from management and the directors has been very insightful and has allowed me to learn, and progress well within the firm.
We are fortunate enough to have an active Sports and Social department which organises lots of events throughout the year along with several sports teams, such as touch rugby and five-a-side football (along with others). I am based in Guernsey and we have recently moved into our new offices at St. James Place and whilst certainly not the be-all and end-all, it is fantastic to be able to start the day overlooking some panoramic views of St. Peter Port.
