S’BUSISO RETHABILE KEOAGILE , AUDIT
What is your background?
I completed my schooling at Legae Academy in Botswana, before moving to London in 2020 to pursue a BSc (Hons) in Investment and Financial Risk, followed by an MSc in Investment Management at Bayes Business School, City, University of London.
During my time in London, I also worked part-time at McDonald’s, starting as a batch cooker and progressing to shift manager.
Why did you choose to work for Grant Thornton ?
After completing my Masters, I was still keen on learning about the investment management industry and intentionally chose Grant Thorton due to its sector focus on investment management, particularly across investment funds and financial services clients. I also had early insight to the firm’s culture when two Channel Island representatives visited my university. I was genuinely impressed by how they spoke about the organisation, with particular emphasis on diversity and inclusion, flexibility, and openness. What stood out most to me was a culture where junior staff are encouraged to interact directly with managers, directors, and partners in an open plan office. From my experience, the environment is incredibly interactive, and I have enjoyed sitting next to different partners/directors, managers and junior staff since joining the firm. Combined with a truly diverse workforce across multiple backgrounds and nationalities, I felt Grant Thornton was a place where I could both grow and belong – and I was not wrong.
What is your role and what do you like about your position?
I am currently an Audit Associate and studying towards my ICAEW ACA qualification. I work on audit assignments (from planning through to completion) for clients including investment funds, fiduciaries, and insurance companies. The work is complex and detailed, often involving clients with large and sophisticated asset bases, which makes every engagement a great learning experience.
What I find most rewarding about my role is the level of responsibility I am given early in my career. I am trusted to work on clients with significant and complex assets and receive strong guidance and structured support. My work is regularly reviewed, and the feedback I receive is constructive and focused on my development. I also appreciate the firm’s regular and structured training programmes, particularly Audit 360, which has been incredibly helpful in building my understanding of the full audit process. I equally value the sector-focussed training; training on audits for private equity has been my favourite so far.
Why do you like working at Grant Thornton?
As I work towards my ICAEW ACA qualification, I really value how my workload is aligned with my academic calendar and exam periods, allowing me to manage both effectively.
Outside of work, I am part of the firm’s basketball community and had the opportunity to represent Grant Thornton in the 2025 Guernsey Business Basketball League. We won five out of six games – I was able to build strong relationships across the firm, from juniors through to managers and senior staff, outside of the office environment through this experience, and most importantly I had fun with people are now consider as my friends.
These experiences have made Grant Thornton feel like more than just a workplace, it is a place where professional growth and personal connections genuinely go hand in hand. I enjoy the balance between flexibility, development, and community here.
