WILLIAM KNIGHT, BUSINESS ADVISORY
What is your background?
Before working at Grant Thornton most of my work life was spent in the hospitality industry, working in a range of different roles. It was a great starting point that allowed me travel, meet a variety of different people and gain customer service skills.
Why did you choose to work for Grant Thornton?
A friend of mine was working at Grant Thornton and had recommended the business to me. After doing some research I could see that company was focussed on the growth of its employees and offered to support associates through their professional exams. As I had not studied for a while this was very important to me.
What is your role and what do you like about your position?
I am currently a senior associate in the business advisory department, having recently transferred from audit. I enjoyed the breadth of experience I gained from my time in audit, getting to develop a deeper knowledge of the Guernsey Finance industry and applying what I had learnt from my exams. There was also a great balance between working independently, whilst still having the team being available for support. In business advisory there is also the opportunity to work with an array of clients and I am enjoying learning about the different services the advisory team have to offer.
Why do you like working at Grant Thornton?
Grant Thornton are very supportive of their staff and offer a great degree of flexibility to create a healthy work-life balance. There is a very sociable culture at GT with regular events and opportunities to get to know your colleagues outside of the work environment. Additionally, the new Guernsey office has a great atmosphere and promotes cohesive, productive working.
